Using BitlBee

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

I finally bit the bullet and installed BitlBee, an “IRC instant messaging gateway” (quote WP). Basically, it goes between IRC and a variety of IM protocols, of which MSN is one. In other words, I can now access all my MSN conversations through my IRC client. I’ve always preferred using Irssi to MSN Messenger, so this is probably the best solution for now. I’ll see how well it works over the next few weeks.

Ace Attorney Investigations finished!

Case 4 was easy and wasn’t terribly exciting, but case 5 was awesome. And long. But I clocked it in the end.

Now to replay 1-3 in English :P

So I've settled with a new modem

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

It’s the Linksys AM300. It’s an interesting modem, since my download is now 150KB/s more than what it was before.

And it might turn out there’s something wrong with my hdd after all. I’ll try to get a replacement.

Time for a new post?

So in the end I did buy Achron, but I haven’t had time to play it in depth yet. The time travel mechanism is pretty interesting, though at the same time it’s pretty tricky to get it right. Jumping to the appropriate time, making sure you have enough time to issue orders before the time wave passes, etc. all need some tinkering with in order to play at an above average level.

Today (as in 3am “day”), I discovered that my new Netgear DGN2000 is very likely the cause of what seemed like a hdd problem on my server. I had replaced my modem + switch + wireless AP set up with that since my old modem died on Saturday. So right now I’m using my really old ADSL modem + wireless AP. Hopefully I’ll get a replacement soon. Or maybe I’ll just get a refund. I was under the impression the DGN2000 had 10/100/1000 ethernet ports but it turns out it only has 10/100.

Work is as monotonous as always, although I do learn quite a few things every day. Officially I finish this Friday, but I might still be ~20h short of 400h. Anyway, since it’s unlikely a summer scholarship will take 400h, I may as well do as much time now as I can. There’s a possibility I can get some one-off programming jobs after all.
