ボクは、天才検事。

Some screenies from the first case (gyakuten no raihousha, “Turnabout Visitor”) of Gyakuten Kenji. The characters all have miniature sprites that walk around the screen now, rather than just full sized images popping in and out.

Looks pretty epic, I don’t want to wait until the English one comes out but I have no idea how well I’ll be able to do in the Japanese one. Guess we’ll have to see :D

EG115 Truss Design

It’s predicted to hold 1140N, so it’ll hopefully hold around 700-800N if constructed properly.

I made it in Pro/E mainly so I could get a picture of each joint, but it also means I now have a nice 3D view of the whole thing :)

CS201 Assignment Update

Monday, May 25th, 2009

When I told Haoyang I wrote my algorithm in 35 instructions, he told me “you can probably do it in 32, if you think about it.”

I thought about it on the bus trip home today, and lo and behold, I’ve condensed it into 32 instructions, and I managed to squeeze one register out of my algorithm altogether :D

CS201 Assignment

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

Task:
Write the code to sort data in ascending order in AVR assembly.

I thought it was pretty fun, but I only hit one snag. I kinda expected it to be harder :/

I would post the code, but then my fellow classmates would copy ;P

Summary:
Algorithm – selection sort
Instructions – 35 excluding the final end: rjmp end
Labels – 4

The best I can do with my code is 34 instructions, but I decided to split up one instruction to make things more clear.

IGN DSi review lulz

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

http://au.gear.ign.com/articles/970/970172p1.html

On paper, the DSi boasts a significant processing speed boost over its predecessor, jumping from 67 MHz in the DS Lite to 133 MHz in the DSi, but during our evaluations actual speed variations between the two were negligible.

Like we experienced with the DSi’s CPU speed enhancements, the benefits of the expanded RAM are hardly noticeable despite being four times that of the DS Lite.

What did he expect? Games to run at double the speed?

Home recording tips

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

If you didn’t know, I’m really into singing. I always dream about recording my own covers for songs. Thing is, I hardly have the time to write the music. Not to mention that I can’t really sing that well. Sure, I can hit the notes, but my voice doesn’t sound right.

Anyway, in order to get a good recording on cheap equipment, here’s a few tips.

  1. Bass boost: A voice recorded with a cheap mike is usually pretty tinny. A quick bass boost by 6-9dB usually makes it sound much richer.
  2. Reduce sharp noises: Use a negative value with amplify to reduce sharp ‘sss’ or ‘ch’ sounds. It takes a while to go through all of them, but it makes it sound much better.
  3. Learn to sing. This is probably the most important, right? :P

I might have time to make a cover for a certain song I really like (ie. both music and voice) later (but I don’t know how much later). It’s in Japanese though, so recording my singing might take a really long while, since my pronunciation isn’t quite right most of the time. Still, editing makes this sort of thing much easier to take care of :)
